MATHEMATICS COMPETITION; FINALS

On the 17th of February 2024, CDM Academy International had its second round of the mathematics competition that started on the 27th of January.

At the end of the first round there were only six students who qualified for this round, and they include:

  1. Ukane Praise Oghene-Vary (SSS3)
  2. Jubachukwu Emmanuel (SSS2)
  3. Azenda Dooyum (SSS3)
  4. Frank Iember Valentina (SSS3)
  5. Kalu Martin (SSS3)
  6. Ugorji Victor (SSS2)

At the beginning of this round the contestants who qualified were interviewed by the members of the press club and they were asked these questions:

“How does it feel to be back?”

“Do you think this round is going to be easier?”

“How confident are you?”

“Are you used to oral competitions?”

“Do you think you can win this round?”

And we got several replies from students who qualified from these schools:

  • Queen of the Rosary Secondary School
  • CDM Academy International
  • W.M Bristow Secondary School

Queen of the Rosary:

Azenda Dooyum (SSS3)- “I feel good to be back”.

“Yeah, I think so”.

“I am 100% confident”.

“This is my second time participating in an oral competition”.

“I think I can win this round”.

Frank Iember Valentina (SSS3)-

“I’m glad to be back”.

“I think this round is going to be a bit tougher than the first round”.

“I’m not very confident”.

“I’m not really used to oral competitions but by God’s grace I will win this round”.

CDM Academy International:

Ukane Praise Oghene-Vary (SSS3)- “It feels nice”.

“It’s challenging”.

“I put it all on God”.

Jubachukwu Emmanuel (SSS2)- “I don’t know”.

“Not at all because it is just 10 seconds. How?!”

“Out of ten I am 2.5 percent confident”.

W.M Bristow Secondary School:

Kalu Martin (SSS3)- “I feel good”.

“I don’t think so”.

“I’m very confident”.

“No, I’ve never participated in any other oral competition”.

“Definitely, I think I can win this round”.

Ugorji Victor (SSS2)- “I feel good to be back but I’m quite tensed”.

“I’ve experienced a quiz competition before, but I don’t think this one is going to be the same”.

“I depend on God”.

“No, but this is my second time being involved in an oral competition”.

Ater the interviews, the competition started with a warmup of five questions did not include marks. Thereafter the actual questions were given, and the competition commenced.

During the competition members of the press club interviewed the audience to know their reviews and just to have a little fun:

“How is the competition”

“Do you feel your school can win. Why?”

Tarvershima Hemen:

“It’s nice, I like the way they are answering questions with so much ease”.

“Yes. Because I have hope and I believe that we (CDM) are going to win”.

Mr Gbalumun Aondosoo (Bristow):

“I’m feeling good because the students are performing well”.

“Yes”

“I was very happy when they qualified for this round”.

Mr Dominic Saku (Queen of the Rosary):

“I’m very happy they are performing really well against boys”.

“I am also very proud”.

“If there’s a second season we would proudly be here to attend”           

Afterwards, when the Finals was over there were two contestants left and they were: Ugorji Victor and Azenda Dooyum and they battled on for 1st place. The two contestants were asked how they felt, and these are their replies­:

Ugorji Victor – “I’m very happy. I thought I was not going to be able to do anything because the first time I attended a quiz competition I couldn’t do anything, but this time was different, and I thank God”.

Azenda Dooyum- “I was so tensed when I was up on the stage but now, I feel very fulfilled although I expected to be 1st but as God would have it, I came 2nd”. At the end of it all Ugorji Victor from W.M Bristow Secondary School emerged as the winner of the second round of the mathematics competition hosted at CDM Academy International.

AWARDS

The top three participants were awarded for their excellent performance with the victor, Ugorji Victor, taking home a cash price from the organisers.

  • 1st Place – Ugorji Victor
  • 2nd Place – Azenda Dooyum
  • 3rd Place – Jubachukwu Emmanuel
